Neil Hartnell, Tribune Business Editor, quoted the Lead negotiator for the Bahamas’ WTO (World Trade organization) negotiating team as asserting that the Government’s ability to protect Bahamian companies from foreign competition was “long gone.’ It was a stark admission having regard for and its source and its constitutional, legal, social and political implications. The Lead negotiator, by way of a detailed interview, further admonished businesses to think bigger for survival. Businesses were put on notice to take a more” global look at how you do business”. Look beyond this nations borders they were told and “sell to the world “.

India notifies WTO of Draft Quality Control Solar Photovoltaic Systems, Devices and Components Goods Order 2017

India has, in accordance with the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade, through the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (“MNRE”) notified the World Trade Organization’s (“WTO”) Committee on Technical Barriers to Trade, for circulation of a draft quality control order (G/TBT/N/IND/59) on solar photovoltaic systems, devices and components amongst other member countries and interested international standardizing and conformity assessment bodies to elicit their comments.

Russia accession to the Protocol amending the Agreement on trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights

In its meeting of April 27, 2017, the Russian Government has approved the Bill “On approval of the Protocol amending the Agreement on trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights” proposed by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Russian Ministry of economic development and trade, and endorsed its further introduction to the State Duma1.

The WTO Protocol amending the Agreement on trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights (hereinafter – the “Protocol”)2 was adopted by WTO General Council on December 06, 2005, and opened for signature by WTO member states until December 01, 2007, with further extension until December 31, 2017.

Italy-EU: Anti-dumping investigations on China – Closed on April 20, 2016, the EU open public consultation on the expiration of the provisions affecting the Non Market Economy Status of China.

On February 10, 2016, the European Commission has launched a public consultation (http://trade.ec.europa.eu/doclib/docs/2016/february/tradoc_154258.pdf) concerning the methodology used in the EU to hinder Chinese’s anti-dumping practices.

The EU open public consultation on the expiration of the provisions affecting the Non Market Economy Status of China and the anti-dumping investigations on that country closed on April 20, 2016.
