Proposed amendments to Retirement Villages Act withdrawn

On 5 June 2014, the Government tabled provisions to amend the Retirement Villages Act 1999 (NSW) (the Act) that were scheduled to commence from 4 July 2014 with the commencement of the Statute Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2014 (the Bill). Those changes to the Act have since been withdrawn.

The Bill commenced on 4 July 2014 without the amendments to the Act included.  They had been removed by the legislative council on 18 June 2014 prior to the Bill being passed. More…

Retirement Villages Amendment Bill 2012 (WA) Released

On 14 August 2012, Simon O’Brien, the Minister for Commerce, tabled the Retirement Villages Amendment Bill 2012 for Western Australia.

On 19 October 2011 the Victorian Consumer Affairs Minister Michael O’Brien released a discussion paper which seeks feedback on ways to promote a better understanding of the rights and obligations of residents who live in retirement villages in Victoria, as well as a better understanding by potential residents of these rights and obligations (Discussion Paper).  read more

Commencement of Amendments to User Rights Principles

In October 2011 the amendments to the Aged Care Act 1997 (Cth) commenced. Simultaneously, amendments to the User Rights Principles 1997 (Cth) were also introduced.  The Principles combined with the Act deal with the key requirements as to the payment and protection of accommodation bonds.  read more

New LPI Witness Requirements

From 1 November 2011 new requirements come into force in relation to witnessing documents. Witnesses to documents will need to confirm the identity of a person that has asked for their signature to be witnessed on an LPI dealing, application or caveat.     read more
