Arnstein & Lehr Chicago Partner Mary Cannon Veed provided an extensive quote in the June 28 issue of BizTimes.com, Milwaukee business news, as one of the commentaries to an article titled “Reaction pours in over historic court ruling on health care.” The article explains the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent upholding of President Obama’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care, commonly referred to as “Obamacare,” which will affect the way all Americans receive and pay for personal medical care. Ms. Veed comments that the Supreme Court’s decision settles the question of whether Congress can establish near-universal health insurance, however the debate will continue as to how we will control and pay for the escalating costs of health care to the uninsured. Ms. Veed adds this is an important issue to address, given health care expenses are now approaching 25 percent of our GDP.
