Former Miami Commissioner Marc D. Sarnoff joins Shutts & Bowen

MIAMI — February 2, 2016 — Former City of Miami Commissioner and Miami Commission Chairman Marc D. Sarnoff has joined Shutts & Bowen LLP. He will be a Partner in the Government Law and Land Use Practice Groups in the firm’s Miami office.

Mr. Sarnoff served the city for nine years until November 2015, representing City of Miami residents from Coconut Grove, Brickell, Downtown, Edgewater, Biscayne Boulevard, and Morningside. He served as Chairman of the City Commission, the Downtown Development Authority and the Omni Community Redevelopment Agency. During Mr. Sarnoff’s tenure, Miami witnessed hundreds of millions of dollars in new investment in the city, booming tourism and greatly expanded cultural opportunities.

McDonald Hopkins Government Strategies Advisory: This Week in Washington — July 19, 2013

This week, Senate Democrats and a group of Senate Republicans reached a deal that would avoid Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) using the so-called “nuclear option” to change the rules regarding the use of the filibuster as it relates to cabinet appointments.

Reid had charged Republicans with abusing the filibuster to hold up several of President Obama’s cabinet picks – a charge Republicans once leveled at Democrats when President George W. Bush was in the White House. Reid said last week that he had the 51 votes necessary to change the filibuster rules as it related to cabinet appointments.

 Cleveland, Ohio (January 8, 2013) – Steven C. LaTourette, who recently retired after serving 18 years in the U.S. House of Representatives, will head a new subsidiary of McDonald Hopkins LLC, a business advisory and advocacy law firm with a more than 80-year history and offices in Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, Miami and West Palm Beach.  The subsidiary will not be a branch office of the law firm and will not provide legal services, but will operate as an ancillary business, owned by the law firm, and provide lobbying and government relations services in Washington, D.C.
