Prior to joining Howard & Howard, Ms. Madsen served as the Vice President of Compliance/Chief Compliance Officer with an emerging Fintech platform helping small and medium-sized businesses secure financing and working capital solutions. She was responsible for drafting regulatory compliance-related policies, procedures and risk assessments; conducting compliance training and testing; reviewing and revising contracts; and serving as the Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Officer. Ms. Madsen also owned a compliance consulting company, ESTEE Compliance, LLC that assisted credit unions with their regulatory compliance needs.

Game Changer! Inauguration of expanded Panama Canal ushers in New Era of global trade

On Sunday, June 26th, 2016; the inaugural transit of the Panama Canal Expansion began with the transit of Neopanamax vessel COSCO Shipping Panama through the new Atlantic-facing Agua Clara Locks.

Originally named Andronikos, the vessel was renamed to honor and pay respect to the country of Panama and the Canal.

The Expansion Program is the Canal’s largest enhancement project. It included the construction of a new set of locks on the Atlantic and Pacific side of the waterway and the excavation of more than 150 million cubic meters of material, creating a second lane of traffic and doubling the cargo capacity of the waterway. While the Expanded locks are 70 feet wider and 18 feet deeper than those in the original Canal, they use less water due to water-savings basins that recycle 60 percent of the water used per transit.

Mr. Gardberg has handled simple and complex transactional matters all over the world, including deals stateside in Southern and Northern Nevada, Florida, and New York, and deals overseas in Great Britain, Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Ukraine, Hungary, Croatia, Macedonia, and the United Arab Emirates.  His clients include Fortune 500 companies, national and international banks, real estate developers, construction companies, established and start-up technology companies, manufacturers, and private and state charter schools. He also previously spent five years in Geneva, Switzerland overseeing a mass-claims compensation program reimbursing claimants for World War II-era property losses.
