On 5 March 2013 within the framework of SEB Baltic HR & Legal Summit TARK GRUNTE SUTKIENE conducted a seminar on topical competition law legal issues in the Banking and Finance area in the European Union and Baltic states.

TARK GRUNTE SUTKIENE specialists from all three Baltic states with more than 10-year experience in practicing the competition law – partner Lina Daruliene, partner Andra Rubene and senior associate Rene Frolov – spoke and led the discussions in the seminar. Attorney and partner of the Banking and Finance Practice Group Neringa Grazinyte and specialist of the Competition Law Practice Group Māra Stabulniece also took part in the seminar.

5th business conference: THE CHARMS AND PITFALLS OF EU FUNDING

The conference “The charms and pitfalls of EU funding – what can the Estonian economy expect from the EU budget period 2014-2020”, which celebrates its fifth anniversary this year, will be held on 15 March from 8.30 to 14.00 atSwissotel Tallinn.

The conference is organized by TARK GRUNTE SUTKIENE, daily Postimees and business news portal E24.

At the fifth Big Issue business conference, Siim Kallas, Vice President of the European Commission, will tell us the truth behind the distribution of funds in Brussels. He is followed by Ivar Sikk, Deputy Secretary-General at the Ministry of Finance, who will speak about the use of EU funds in Estonia. An economic analyst, Maris Lauri, will speculate on what would be the state of our economy and finance without EU funding, and the Irish former Minister of State for European Affairs, Dick Roche, will share his experience of how the Irish economy was revived with the help of EU money. Jüri Käo, a successful Estonian businessman, will speak about the expectations and visions of the local business community.

Clark Wilson Lawyers to Chair and Speak at Upcoming Seminar

Mark Weintraub will co-chair the British Columbia Trial Lawyers Association’s upcoming seminar, Estates Litigation: A Trial Lawyers Primer.  The seminar will be held on April 26, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency in Vancouver, starting at 8:30 a.m.  In addition to estate litigators, the speakers will include the Deputy Public Guardian and Trustee, a geriatric psychiatrist, a geriatric physician, and a retired Judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia.

Amy Mortimore will be speaking at the seminar.  Her topic is “Unjust Enrichment: Fairness and the Law”.  This topic will include the development of the concept of unjust enrichment, and its specific application to cases involving estates.  The topic will also include a consideration of the appropriate remedies, such as constructive trust.

Tamsin R. Kaplan Serves as Faculty Member at MBA CLE Program on Employment & Business Litigation Matters

On February 19, Davis Malm shareholder Tamsin R. Kaplan participated in the Massachusetts Bar Association’s Continuing Legal Education program, “Lifecycle of a Business: Part III Employment & Business Litigation Matters.” As part of the Business Law Section Council’s four-part educational series on establishing, operating and concluding Massachusetts business entities, this program focused on common legal problems relating to employment and commercial litigation. Experienced business lawyers as well as new practitioners attended the program. Ms. Kaplan discussed topics such as preventing and handling employment problems, drafting employee handbooks, wage claims and independent contractor issues, wrongful termination and discrimination claims, negotiation of severance agreements, and traps for the unwary employer in offer letters, contracts and workplace management.
