You don’t need $400 million dollars like Andrew ‘Twiggy’ Forrest to make a difference!
A common misconception is that only wealthy people leave money to charity when they die. The reality is that the majority of charitable gifts are made by everyday Australians wanting to make a positive difference to their community after they have passed away.
March 1, 2017 — The Esplanade at Place-des-Arts was the venue of a lunchtime gathering to support Soupe pour Elles, an initiative led by Gaz Métro. Today’s gathering was part of the annual fundraising drive with a target of $200,000 before March 8, to help nine organizations providing assistance to women in difficulty, homeless of victims of violence.
RSS wanted to be present at this gathering, as evidenced by the participation of Mariella De Stefano, Gabrielle Ferland, Isabelle Gauthier Brancoli and Jeanine Guindi.
The event raised money for the Parma Hospital Health Care Foundation and the Cleveland Courage Fund, which benefits kidnap victims Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight.

Miguel Diaz de la Portilla
Arnstein & Lehr Miami Partner and State Senator Miguel Diaz de la Portilla recently partnered with Farm Share to distribute food to more than 600 Florida senior citizens on fixed incomes. Food Share is a large-scale food bank and charitable packinghouse working to end hunger. It specializes in securing donated fresh fruits and vegetables from Florida’s farmers and putting it into the hands of low-income families in need of nutritious food. Every year it provides more than 15 million pounds of food to more than 600,000 low-income households across Florida. Last week Farm Share took truckloads of food to three senior centers in Miami-Dade County. The items included fresh cucumbers, green beans and cantaloupe, plus a variety of USDA canned goods, beans, rice, pork patties and corn meal. The seniors were delighted to receive the wonderful variety of food, along with boxes of personal hygiene products and cleaning supplies.
Arnstein & Lehr Chicago attorneys with the Construction Practice Group attended the recent Construction Industry Dinner in support of the Chicago Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The group is a longstanding supporter of the event and supported it as a sponsor once again. It was held at the Hyatt Regency Chicago on April 11. It is one of the key fundraising events for the Chicago Area Council, raising thousands of dollars to maintain the Council’s infrastructure, programming and the resources needed for a quality scouting experience.

The West Palm Beach office of Arnstein & Lehr and our client IBERIABANK partnered again for the Heartfelt Holiday Toy Drive to benefit children served by Achievement Centers for Children & Families. The toy drive was open for community participation and ran from November 26 through December 12.
This was the third year that IBERIABANK and Arnstein & Lehr sponsored the toy drive. The two worked in cooperation with the National Arts Institutes Kids Rule! in the Arts. Kids Rule! is a vital community program designed by the National Arts Institute (NAI), providing a venue for local high school students in the arts to give back and invest in their communities.

Over the past three months, Arnstein & Lehrs Tampa office provided financial support to the Akilah Institute for Women, Weinberg Villages Eight Over Eighty Awards, and Rotary Club of Tampas Gift of Life Gala. Partner Vanessa N. Cohn led the review committee process to select the recipients.
Akilah Institute for Women is an organization founded in Tampa to help women in Rwanda break the poverty cycle. Women in Akilahs programs find meaningful employment or become entrepreneurs by gaining skills, knowledge and confidence. The Institute celebrated their inaugural commencement ceremony over the summer with 39 graduates and 100 percent job placement. Our donation will sponsor women working toward education goals this year.

Arnstein & Lehrs Miami office was acknowledged in a December 15 article in The Florida Bar regarding their involvement, since 2009, with KidSide organization, a Miami-Dade not-for-profit that raises funds for Family Court Services, with a $2,500 sponsorship of the organizations 2012 softball tournament fundraiser. In addition to a $2,500 sponsorship of the organizations softball tournament, Arnstein & Lehr also was a $400 sponsor of the groups judicial luncheon. Miami Partner Ronald R. Fieldstone and Office Administrator John Santarone led a team of Arnstein employees at the November 11 softball tournament. The mission of KidSide is to provide services for those children most victimized by family conflicts.

During the holiday season, helping others is on many people’s minds. We see more charitable branding and increased advertising to encourage people to give – to capture the true spirit of the holidays. Right after the shopping whirlwind of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we celebrated “Giving Tuesday” with the hashtag #GivingTuesday trending on Twitter. Many large charities are encouraging donations on social media, among other platforms. Text a number and you can donate $10 to American Red Cross to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Salvation Army volunteers are ringing their bells on street corners and outside of suburban shopping malls. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital launched a Thanks and Giving campaign across a variety of platforms – television, online and print– partnering with a number of nationwide retailers to allow shoppers to make a donation to St. Jude during in-store or online checkout.
