Arnstein & Lehr LLP Chicago Partner William T. Eveland, along with Chicago Associates Julie Meyer and Erin Cannon, participated in Spark Chicago’s apprenticeship program. Spark Chicago apprenticeships bring underserved middle school students out of the classroom and into the workplace for individualized mentoring that result in education success and powerful career ambitions. Mr. Eveland served as a mentor for Chastity and Tyler, two seventh grade students. They recently completed an eight-week apprenticeship in the Chicago office. The students came two hours every week and were educated on being a lawyer. The students were able to tour state and federal courts, research projects, and were assisted with their final project to showcase what they learned.

Robert A. McKenzie’s life in aviation, law basis for Law Bulletin story

Arnstein & Lehr LLP Chicago Of Counsel Robert A. McKenzie was interviewed by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin for an article titled, “Aviation soars through life of attorney, pilot, airport board chair,” that was published on November 25. Recently, Mr. McKenzie was appointed chair of the Chicago Executive Airport Board of Directors. “It’s a great way for me to combine my love of aviation and law,” Mr. McKenzie says in the interview.

The suburban airport is the third largest in the state of Illinois and is jointly owned by the village of Wheeling and the city of Prospect Heights. The board develops the airport’s annual budget, approves contracts and submits grant applications. As chair, Robert will preside over board meetings and serve as board spokesman, in addition to participating in debates and discussions.

Menaker authored an article titled, “A primer on when the federal marital privilege is waived,” which was published on November 26 in the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. The article discusses common law in which confidential communications between husband and wife are to be protected in a court of law. This privilege is recognized in Illinois as well as in the federal system, however, it can be waived by the defendant’s failure to invoke it if and when a spouse is called to testify. Recently, these laws were brought to attention in a case that went before the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
