World Trademark Review 1000 recommends partner Toomas Taube as a leading trademark lawyer in Estonia

2011 edition of the World Trademark Review 1000 (WTR 1000) identifies partner Toomas Taube as the recommended expert in Estonia in the trademarks area.

WTR 1000: „Toomas Taube of TARK GRUNTE SUTKIENE maintains an extremely broad practice, although interviewees strongly recommend him in the trademarks area. He is known in IP circles primarily for his expert handling of trademark infringement disputes.“

The edition marks that the overarching trend in Estonian market is an increased awareness among entrepreneurs and business of the importance of protecting their trademark and other IP rights. The year 2010 has been a year of business as usual, although some have noted the a slight rise in the volume of litigation.

Senior associate Agnius Pilipavičius held a seminar on restructuring

On 28 April 2011, TARK GRUNTE SUTKIENE senior associate Agnius Pilipavičius held a seminar for the employees of AB Šiaulių Bankas and its subsidiaries. At the seminar, the speaker presented the changes in the regulation of the institute of restructuring after the coming into effect of the Law of the Republic of Lithuania on Restructuring of Enterprise on 1 October 2010. The participants discussed the application of the institute of restructuring in practice.

More than 20 employees of AB Šiaulių Bankas and its subsidiaries from all over Lithuania attended the seminar.

TARK GRUNTE SUTKIENE Tallinn office advised Pro Kapital in sale of Kristiine Keskus

TARK GRUNTE SUTKIENE team advised Pro Kapital in sale of one of the largest shopping centres (Kristiine Keskus) in Tallinn to Citycon group for ca 105 million EUR. The deal was closed in 2 May 2011 whereafter Citycon group, already owning Rocca al Mare and Magistrali shopping centres in Tallinn, became the owner of Kristiine shopping centre.

This deal is a landmark transaction for being one of the largest real estate transactions in Estonia ever and for setting a benchmark for other post-recession real estate deals.

Inga Klimašauskienė has joined TARK GRUNTE SUTKIENE

Attorney-at-law Inga Klimašauskienė has joined the Dispute Resolution and Competition Group of TARK GRUNTE SUTKIENE.

In 2003-2007, Inga worked as a lawyer with UAB G4S Lietuva. In 2007-2011, she was an attorney-at-law in the law office of attorney-at-law Jonas Ivoška and had internship at the law office Atkin Chambers in London. She specialises in litigation and arbitration.
In 2005, Inga Klimašauskienė graduated with a master‘s degree from Vilnius University, Faculty of Law. From 2008, she holds an LL.M. degree from Suffolk University Law School in Boston, USA.

TARK GRUNTE SUTKIENE lawyers acted as referees in Moot Court Competition START 2011

On 26 April, the finals of the national Moot Court Competition START 2011 organised by the Lithuanian National Group (ELSA Lithuanian) of the European Law Students’ Association were held in the Vilnius City 3rd Local Court. The best six teams of law students that paved their way from the semi-finals competed in the final round of the competition. This year, the topic of the finals was Law of Financial Instruments Market.
Vidmantas Drizga, Partner of TARK GRUNTE SUTKIENE was a member of the panel of judges who assessed legal reasoning and arguments, language culture, ethics, oratory skills and originality of the finalists.

B. Poderis and A. Banys became the winners of the completion. G. Grigalauskaitė and I. Grabauskaitė won the second place and S. Vilčinytė and E. Klimavičiūtė became the third place winners.

Eugenija Sutkienė has been elected a member of the Board of Lithuanian Bar Association

Ms Eugenija Sutkienė, Managing Partner of TARK GRUNTE SUTKIENE, was elected a member of the Board of Lithuanian Bar Association at the general meeting of attorneys held on 22 April.

Three members of the Court of Honour of the Lithuanian Bar Association have also been elected at the meeting. Ass. Prof. Dr. Leonas Virginijus Papirtis has been re-elected the chairperson of the Lithuanian Bar Association.

Andrej Rudanov made presentations at the conferences of the Geriatrics Clinic of the Medical Academy, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, held in Vilnius and Kaunas

Associate of TARK GRUNTE SUTKIENE Andrej Rudanov made presentations at the conferences Urgent Dementia Issues organised by the Geriatrics Clinic of the Medical Academy, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, on 14 and 20 April 2011 in Kaunas and Vilnius respectively. The presentations focused on legal aspects of dementia, legal protection of patients suffering from dementia, changes in protection of patients in different disease staged. The problem becomes even more urgent: the scientists forecast that in 2050 more than 100 million people around the world will suffer from Alzheimer’s disease as a form of dementia.

For several years, Andrej Rudanov cares for legal issues arising in geriatrics, provides consultations to health care specialists and shares his knowledge in conferences.

The Latvian Collegium of Sworn Advocates as the independent professional organisation of the sworn advocates of Latvia unites all sworn advocates practising in Latvia. The Board is the executive institution of the Collegium of Sworn Advocates, which leads the work of the collegium.
