Historically, consumer privacy in the United States has been a piecemeal effort left to the individual states. On June 18, 2018, the California governor signed the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) into law. The statute went into effect on January 1, 2020, and led the nation with one of the most comprehensive and far reaching privacy laws. Following suit, other states began pushing their own version of the CCPA through their legislatures. For example, both Colorado and Virginia have already passed their versions.  Read more…
