Arnstein & Lehr Chicago Partner Joel M. Hurwitz recently completed a supplement to his chapter, “Commercial Real Estate Transactions – the Mortgage Lender’s Perspective,” in the treatise, Commerical Real Estate, published by the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education (IICLE). Mr. Hurwitz has been the author of the chapter and supplements for several years. The chapter, as supplemented, is scheduled for publication in late spring 2013.

The article discusses the Senate’s passage of the Marketplace Fairness Act and how it relies on small business exemption. The seminar addressed many common misconceptions and mistakes business owners make in managing their workforce. Mr. Tremblay then provided the attendees with steps to identify and avoid those common mistakes.
Published on May 15, 2013 on the website RetailCustomerExperience.com, Arnstein & Lehr Chicago Associate Ashley Hayes Forte offered her thoughts in an article titled “Will an Internet Sales Tax Bring Fairness or Confusion?” Ms. Forte addressed who is considered to be a “winner” on the recent Senate passing of the Marketplace Fairness Act. The complete passing of this Act would grant states the authority to collect sales tax at the time of the transaction, but only after they simplify their sales tax laws.
